Taurine is a dietary supplement in tablets that provides 1,000 mg of taurine. Unlike other amino acids, taurine is not incorporated into protein structures, but exists in the intracellular space of certain tissues as a free form amino acid and performs various functions. It is not classified as an essential amino acid, but taurine is the second most abundant amino acid in skeletal muscle and is found in other tissues at high concentrations where high energy levels are required.
